Care and maintenance
Genuine leather lasts for years with a little care. These simple habits keep it supple, clean and looking its best.
Wipe clean, gently
Dust with a soft, dry cloth. For marks, use a cloth that is only slightly damp. Avoid soap, detergent, alcohol and household cleaners.
Let it dry naturally
If leather gets wet, blot off the water and let it dry at room temperature. Never use a hair dryer, heater or direct sun.
Condition now and then
Every few months, rub in a little colourless leather conditioner to keep the leather soft. Test it first on a hidden spot.
Store it to breathe
Keep the piece in its dust bag in a cool, dry, airy place. Avoid plastic covers, which trap moisture.
Watch the monsoon
In humid months, air your leather goods regularly and keep a silica gel sachet in the cupboard to prevent mould.
Keep its shape
Stuff empty bags with tissue paper and do not overfill bags or wallets. Overloading stretches leather and strains stitching.
Avoid oils and stains
Keep leather away from perfume, lotions, oil and ink. Dark denim can transfer colour onto light leather.
Enjoy the patina
Natural marks and a deepening colour are signs of genuine leather. Light scratches on softer leathers often fade when rubbed with a fingertip.
